Air transport ramp attendants, also known as ramp agents, play a crucial role in the aviation industry by ensuring the efficient handling of aircraft on the ground. Their primary responsibilities include operating ramp-servicing vehicles, managing cargo and baggage, and performing various ground support tasks at airports.

Key Responsibilities

• Vehicle Operation: Drive and operate various ramp-servicing vehicles, such as towing tractors, food service trucks, de-icer sprayers, and lavatory servicing trucks.
• Aircraft Handling: Position passenger loading stairs, operate aircraft cargo doors, and marshal or tow aircraft to gate positions for boarding and deplaning.
• Cargo Management: Sort, load, unload, and route cargo and passenger baggage according to load planner instructions to maintain proper balance.
• Aircraft Preparation: Clean and prepare the aircraft interior for passengers and wash the exterior of the aircraft.

Work Environment

Ramp attendants typically work in a physically demanding environment. They are often exposed to varying weather conditions, noise levels, and the need for manual handling of heavy items (up to 70 lbs). The workweek generally consists of 35 to 40 hours, with shifts that may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
